MS Jet db engine stopped the process

My client is getting an error that says "the MS Jet db engine stopped the
process because you and another user are attempting to change the same
record." They have now both gone out of Access, rebooted the workstations
and the server and keep getting the same message. They can not open the
database. Help!

Are they using a split database. If not, I suspect that is at least part of
the problem and you should split it.
The db could be corrupted now and in need of Compact and Repair.
When they get thing going again, check the options to see that the default
record locking is set to Edited record.
