When I visit a number of sites on the web, I get a pop-up
message that reads "To display this page correctly, you
need to download and install the following components:
JAVA virtual machine"

After I click the 'download box', it refers me to
www.microsoft.com/java but there's no particular/specific
download. When I check the Windows 2000 update page, it
indicates that I have all of the latest downloads. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You need Sun Java. Microsoft violated an agreement with Sun and Sun sued Microsoft.
Microsoft lost the suit and lost the rights to provide or update MS Java. They can only
provide Security Updates until 9/04.

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java
Virtual Machine to Windows users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader
capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed
here: http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html.
