Microsoft Java Virtual Machine

Debbie

When I get on a web site. I get this message. "To display
this page correctly, you need to download and install the
following components. Java Vitual Machine" So I click on
download. The next page I get is microsoft's. The message
says, We're sorry you cannot view this page because it
requires MSJVM. You machine does not have the MSJVM
installed. Please visit www.microsoft.com/java and then
there is nothing for me to download. There is Sun, thats
all. So I downloaded that and the web site still don't
appear??? What else is there??

Microsoft no longer supports the Microsoft version
of Java Virtual Machine. Download the following:

The problem is the Sun Java VM does not work for certain apps. One is a
PeopleSoft app we have. We had to find and download the MS JVM to get it to
work.

I agree. Many sites/apps need the ms version. Also the sun version installs
other junk that's not needed. I'll recommend the ms version over suns any
day (for now at least).

MS no longer has anything to do with Java (but since they have just
paid Sun a huge amount of money to settle a lawsuit, this may change
soon.)

To get an up-to-date Java Virtual Machine, look here:
http://java.sun.com/getjava

And the MS JVM doesn't work for many apps. That's why Sun sued, Java
is supposed to be the same on all platforms. MS was using their
"embrace and extend" strategy on it, in violation of the license they
signed with Sun.

I've never seen it install anything other than the JVM!

I don't remember off hand, I never reinstalled it after my recent format,
but I remeber it puts an icon next to the clock when it used, there was
start menu items(shortcuts, a console thing?, etc..). I don't really
remember, but I do know the ms version is seemless and hidden, the sun one
shows up in different places. I don't want or need anything but the jvm to
work. No icons, no shortcuts, no links, no task tray icons are needed. It
just needs to work behind the scenes. IMO, the jvm should be an integrated
hidden service, not work like a third party app.

Careful here Mr. Slattery. Telling the truth about MS and their nasty
antics may get you put off the MS MVP list for next year. <g>

It shows an icon in the tray when it's running, right. The MS JVM
hides when its running. The Sun JVM includes a control panel applet
that allows you to decide which browsers it will be active for. You
can tell it to run for Netscape and Opera, for instance, but not for
IE. Needless to say, you don't get that level of control with the MS
JVM. It won't work at all with anything but IE.

Have been having all sorts of trouble trying to get the Java Runtime v3.0 or v4.0 from Sun to loads and run on my PC. Your link to virtualmachine.tk worked a treat - many thanks
