MS Excel Default Column Width

Does anyone know of a way to modify the setting for the default column
width for Excel workbooks? I believe it is 8.43 characters for the
standard font selected. I would like to expand that number, or even
set it to be dynamic, if at all possible, for newly created workbooks.
Thanks to all.....

Format a workbook the way you want - number of sheets, column width,
row height, fonts, etc... Then save it as a template with the name
Book.xlt in your XLStart folder.

All new workbooks will then be based on that workbook.

And to add to J.E.'s advice, you may want to create another template workbook.
Store this one in the same spot, but call it sheet.xlt.

It'll be used as the template when you're adding a new worksheet to an existing
workbook.
