I uninstalled MS Office 2003 from system to move it (and other apps) to a
new partition Program Files folder. Before uninstall, MS Excel worked fine
and was used without problem for months.

After reinstall, Excel will only extend the selection from first cell
pointed to. ESCape and all other keystrokes are ignored.

I re-installed my old MS Excel 97 app. Same problem.

Word 2003 and Access 2003 seem to work OK.

I have repaired installation twice with no change.

First two times I started Excel after install, I got a pointer cursor; keys
were all ignored. I did not recognize the cursor, but icon suggested it was
"paste spreadsheet here".

Any suggestions on what to fix, or what to look for in Registry?

TIA

One way to extend the selection is to hit the F8 key (you'll see EXT in the
statusbar). Another way is to click on the first cell and shift click on
others.

It kind of sounds like either F8 is toggled on or one of your shift keys is
stuck.

Could it be a keyboard problem?
