MS Entertainment Pack games

Am not really into these newer games but I loved playing the MS
Entertainment Pack games that were around from the Windows 3.1 days
through the Windows 98 days. They were just simple games that were
simple and quick to play like the Freecell, Minesweeper, Solitair, ETC
games that MS still includes with the XP OS.

Does anyone know if it is possible to run them on a Windows XP
system??

Sometimes you need to wait a while for an answer - especially as we've just
had a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK.

In your other post you state that you have the installation discs - so why
not just try it and see?

Anyway, the answer is yes, they do play fine. I don't think they even need
Compatibility Mode changing, although there might be some issues around
cards.dll and possibly sound on some of them - I just copied them off the
CD. And again, IIRC, there were problems with shortcuts not being created by
the installer - I had to do it manually. But that happened in Win95 when I
got them anyway, so not an XP issue.

Windows XP also has all the aforementioned games.
Goto: Start | Settings | Control Panel
Click: Add or Remove Programs
Click: Add/Remove Windows Components
Click: Accessories and Utilities
Click: Details
Click: Games
Click: Details
Check or unCheck games from that list, which include:
Freecell, Hearts, Internet Games, Minesweeper, Solitaire, Spider Solitaire

The Internet Games are not listed separately there, but include:
Internet Backgammon, Internet Checkers, Internet Hearts, Internet Reversi,
Internet Spades

You may have these already on your Start Menu | Programs | Games

XP-pro did not include the MS Entertainment Pack card game called Cruel -
one of the most challenging, hard to win games, if you follow the first
(lame) hint in the "Strategy and Hints" section of the help instructions.
Rather, if you have several cards in the upper left stack, ready to move to
the suit stacks, move them one at a time, and press "Deal" to uncover the
2nd card in each later stack. With practice, you can win more than 3 games
in a row, instead of losing 9 out of 10 tries.

XP does not have the entertainment pack games, but I know what you're
speaking of. Chips challenge, tri peaks, etc.

They're compatable with XP... and Vista while you're checking it out.
They're also free for download now. Search around microsoft.com and you
should stumble into them somewhere. They released them free a few years ago.

No need for an installation CD ^^.

Amazon and Best Buy to no avail. Can anyone help me get the software, I had
the original software on a floppy disk and I can't find it anywhere now.

I have been running the Entertainment Pack on XP Pro for a while with no
problems. I purchased a new computer and lost the original installation
program. My favorite was TriPeaks. Someday I will find the program and
re-install it on my new laptop.

If you've still got the old machine you could try copying the folder over to
your new one and see of the games work. I seem to remember doing this, and
it complained a few times about files it couldn't find - cards.dll, IIRC,
plus maybe others. Hunting them down and putting them in the games' folder
(not Windows or Windows\System, to avoid clashes) made everything
tickety-boo.
