I have MS Updates automatically downloaded "with notification," but MS has
been emailing me with great regularity about their updates; most have
nothing that I want to download.

What's up at MS? My preference is still checked.

Thank you---XP Pro user.

Are you actually getting these notifications in your email? AFAIK, MS
Update notifications go to the system tray, not to email, at least not to
regular XP users.

There were some bogus update emails (in 2003) that actually directed you to
sites where trojans would be installed on your system, but that wasn't MS.
If you're getting these - that's not a good sign.

Yes, I have one that arrived yesterday... I always received the little
shield, when an update was sent by MS, to approve, but I'm being deluged
with their emails now.

Without opening the latest one, I went into File/Properties and this is what
I copied:

Yes, I always had the shield in the systray. None the past two months, I'd
say, except I seem to remember some that were for programs I do not utilize.

thank you...
