need to know how to create ms-dos startup disk to format my puter, my system
wont allow me to do this as an option when i click format even though this is
how the help topic has instructed

The boot diskette is a thing of the past, as all legitimate WinXP
installation CDs are already bootable.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

First, a clarification in the terminology: you don't format your "puter,"
you format your hard drive.

Second, you don't need, and shouldn't use, an ms-dos startup disk to format
the drive.

You can't format the Windows drive from within Windows, since that would
leave Windows without a leg to stand on.

Assuming that your intent is to reinstall WIndows XP cleanly, just boot from
the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if necessary to accomplish
this) and follow the prompts for a clean installation (delete the existing
partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one).
