Boot Floppy

WIN XP HOME

I am following some instructions, to do a small upgrade, how do I do the
below,

Create an MS-DOS boot floppy by using the XP "Format" dialogue, setting the
"Create an MS-DOS startup disk" checkbox (use a good quality floppy disk).

2. Delete all files from the floppy except COMMAND.COM, MSDOS.SYS and IO.SYS
(this creates a minimal boot disk best suited for flashing).

I thought I did this, I put a floppy in the drive, left clicked drive
letter, (A) choose format, then checked create MS DOS Start up disk, clicked
start, it did it OK but none of the above files were there, what am I doing
wrong?

Hi Sandal,

You have to set your computer to Show Hidden Files and Folders in
Control Panel => Folder Options => View.

Hello Claymore,

Thank you very much indeed, that did the trick.

For the record at least in this instance, I had to check "show hidden files"
and uncheck "Hide ext for know file types" and "hide protected OS files".

The boot disk is now made.

Again thank you
