MS Anti-Spyware Beta1 Defs. "5815"

R

Randy Knobloch

Not to be confused with Windows Defender.
Definitions "5815" are now available on the update servers.
Note: They may not be immediately available to you in your
area.

Regards,
Randy

Not sure what you mean by "in your area" (I thought we were all in this
together, MS) but my copy of MS Anti-Spyware Beta1 claims that 5811 is the
"most recent" update as of today. It is, of course, very out of date if 5815
is available...

Considering the chaos surrounding Defender, I do hope this doesn't mean MS
is abandoning us Anti-Spyware Beta users to fend off spyware threats alone
while they try to fix their Defender bugs.

You are out of date. Diagnostics should show a line ending in 168/168 if
the current definitions are in place.

Microsoft has not abandoned users of beta1--in fact, the vast majority of
them have not upgraded, because the offer has not been made on an automated
basis.

Thank God there are others who want to keep MSAS alive!!! I do service and
support for computer users in my area. On every computer I work on I
installed MSAS as part of procedure. It is a wonderful program with a great
interface and so easy for all my computer novices to understand....the design
is perfect and the 3 windowed frames made it easy for my customers to see how
the program was working for them. So much to my surprize when I tried to
install it on yet another computer I found instead "Windows Defender". What a
dissapointment. The interface is ugly and my new customer was lost on her
own. She called me as soon as I left telling me she didn't know how to run
her new program. How can anyone think that this new program is superior in
any way to MSAS? I would even be willing to buy MSAS but as for Defender I
wouldn't even bother installing it .
Sorry to rant but I am sick to see such a great program cast aside for that!

Believe it or not, my Beta 1 is working great so far, and actually updating
automatically now. I run mine at 11 a.m. EST, as well as hubby, and so far,
so good. I'll stick with it till they get the other thing working better,
heard too many folks with problems. JMHO

I suspect they are hard at work on collecting data and fixing the most
pressing issues. We've heard of, I think, more than one item which is
"fixed"--but not seen code released containing that fix. My take on this is
that there is more to be done--I'm sure they want to release the best build
they can, with the most issues fixed.
