MS Access Version Compatibility Question

I currently use a MS Access 2000 database. Is this version compatible with
newer versions of MS Access? (especially with Access XP)

Although the newer versions of Access do have their own file format, out of
the box both Access 2002 and Access 2003 use the Access 2000 file format by
default.
