Mpegs & MM

I have imported several file formats into MM. I note that .dat is not
supported. Is there a good way to convert the .dat into wma files?
Also, it was mentioned that mpeg, mpg files might give me trouble in
MM. What sort of trouble? Thanks.
 
If the DAT file is from a VCD, simply renaming the extension to .MPG should
work fine. If it's another file type it'll need conversion.

The issues with MPEG-2 files are hanging, not being able to split clips
between key frames, not seeing the video but hearing the audio, stopping the
saving process mid-way, etc....
