MPEG2 Clips Will Not Play in Class

For my college classes I create my 2003 PP programs on my home ws with XP-pro
and office 2003.

I am using non-copyrighted mpeg2 files (complete video clips from 1920s in
public domain) which do not have any copyright or DRM issues associated with
them.

These video clips play fine at home within PowerPoint and by double-click on
the filename through Media Player.

I then publish-to-cd (500 meg flash drive) and transfer to top flight laptop
also running XP-Pro and Office 2003. At the college the laptop is hooked up
to the Net and a video projector for the class presentation.

Most MPEG2 video clips will not play when triggered in normal fashion. I
must stop the lecture, hit the backspace key twice, and the space bar once to
move forward. Sometimes that works. Other times requires the same action to
be repeated 2 or 3 times in a row.

I am running Media Player 10 both at home and on the laptop. I can play any
MPEG2 clip by opening Media Player 10 on the laptop and the clip will play
cleanly. However, it always locks up when I try to play this within
PowerPoint 2003.

A colleague suggested that when I transfer the PowerPoint to the laptop I
"lose" the license from the ws that states there are no DRM problems. And
thus, the mess with "two backspaces and a forward space" is to run through
the clip once or twice before PowerPoint's built-in media player will accept
the fact that there are no DRM issues present.

Appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this continuing embarrassing
issue.
