Why is this ? I could play them back fine when using ATI Multimedia centre
7.0 and 7.7

--Well Ive finally installed Catalyst 3.9 drivers and ATI Multimedia player
8.7 for my Athlon PC and older Radeon 64mb DDR TIVO card.
Capturing is beautiful and smooth and I am saving to MPEG2 format.
..
HOWEVER, when I try to play back an MPEG2 file I save to my hard drive with
ATI player I am getting the following error message:- Rmanager unable to
playback file or something similar.
Also WM player 9.0 and Realone player wont play the file either.

Any ideas anyone ?

Try using a DVD player like PowerDVD. If it's a VBR MPEG-2 file, then
most standard players won't be able to play it at all. If all else
fails, you may need to reencode it. Go to vcdhelp.com if you need help
doing that.

Most computers don't have MPEG2 decoders installed by default, so you have
to have one installed (it might come with video editing software)
separately. (software DVD-players use built-in decoders so installing that
won't help). Once installed it should show in Control Panel -> Sounds and
Audio devices -> Hardware: Video codecs (properties) in WinXP. If you
already have one installed try reinstalling.
