MPEG-4 Changing format to edit or save and to use on movie maker H

maybe some one can help me. I have a PVR (personal video recoder) Hooked up
to a Helmet Camera. It records in ASF way of MPEG-4. I am trying to use
Windows Movie Maker 2. I loads ok but takes a very long time to load (sample
footage 50sec took 10plus minutes).

I think what I need to do is change the file format using and encoder. Do
you have a suggestion as to what encoder or codec I should us and how to set
it up. I would primarily like to save to DVD e-mail and post to web.
