Mpeg 2 support in Windows movie maker 2

Hi

Does MM 2 support the MPEG 2 program stream format, I use the infamous micromv format sony camcorder and i need to use mpeg2 files in windows movie maker .
first I had to convert the MMV format to MPEG 2 program stream.( using Jim trowes mmv2mpg.exe)
I was able to open the Mpeg 2 files after installing the Ligos codec.
However if i try to add the mpeg2 clip to the story board MM2 shuts down, that is crashes without any error messages.

Any help would be appreciated

Hello there,

Mpeg and Movie Maker do not work well together. If you take a look at the links
on my website and follow Imaging > Knowledge base Video Help you will find the
best source of info I have ever come across. It will almost certainly shoe what
you need to go straight to DV-AVI format. One thing you may not be aware of is
this....converting from your original format, which I am assuming is a
compressed format, into Mpeg and then hoping to use that in Movie Maker is in
any case not a good idea. This is because you are expanding your original
format with the errors that entails and then compressing that expanded file,
and the errors, into a new format (MPreg). Feeding that into Movie Maker for
editing causes your file to again be expanded this time with the errors from
the first re-compression plus the errors from MPeg itself......

If you want to use Movie Maker it would be better to find a conversion direct
to AVI. This will of course be quicker because of removing one stage and you
will end up with a much better video as well.

Santhosh,

Actually, the original format (MicroMV) _is_ MPEG-2. So
only one conversion to DV-AVI should be required before
importing into Movie Maker.

Most, if not all Sony MicroMV camcorders include the
MovieShaker video editing software. You can use that
software to convert your captured MMV video to DV-AVI.

Then import the DV-AVI video into Movie Maker, as John
has suggested.
