MP3 to WAV

I have just converted a track from MP3 to WAV so that I can imbed it into a
PPT presentation. However the file size has increased from 3 mb to 26mb! Is
there any way that I can reduce this?
Thanks

Hi Charlie.
I am not giving you a solution. However, I believe that you are using
Microsoft Office 2000 or below, that is why you need to convert the
music files; as Microsoft Office 2000 did not support for inputting
MP3s or other extensions. When you convert music files, usually MP3 to
WAV, which you have done, the resulting file size will be greater. In
order to input MP3s (or ~~MAYBE~~ other extensions) to a PowerPoint
Presentation, you need to have Microsft Office XP (XP = 2002), note
that it is only for Windows XP users, but if you are not using Windows
XP, you ~~MAY~~ purchase Microsoft Office 2003, I am not so sure about
what operating system does it supports, hence check it out if you want.
Good luck!
From Jeremy.

First off - file size increase from MP3 to WAV is exactly as you are seeing.
Nothing is really going to change that. However, when you insert sounds, if
they are over 100kb in size, they are linked. Once again, other than
changing the fize size setting under "Tools", "Options", there is no way
around that.

With that said, all that means is you will need to include the WAV file with
your PowerPoint presentation if you want to burn it to a CD, but obviously,
sending via email is out of the question. Keep in mind that it is ALWAYS a
good idea to put your WAV file in the same folder as your PowerPoint
presentation BEFORE inserting it. That way the link will not be broken
between the two if you burn it to CD.

You can use a utility piece of software Called CDex, that will change the header
in your MP3 file into making believe that it is a WAV file, and making it
possible to insert into PowerPoint check it and others out here

Just a nit to pick.

PPT 2000 does indeed allow inserting MP3 and other sound files.

PPT 97 does not allow insertion of MP3 files, but it will play MP3s which
were inserted in a different version of PPT (2000, 2002 or 2003).

Now, if you meant MP3s and other sound files cannot be *embedded* into PPT,
yeah, I'll buy that. Only WAVs can be embedded.

If the file is stereo you make it mono and cut the file size in half.

Wow! Thanks for all of that.
Let me fill you in on the real facts. I have Office 2003 and XP so Jeremy is
a little off beam there. I have received so many good PPS presentations from
friends with music that I decided to have a go. I get the pictures sizes down
to manageble sizes but when I add the music... no use. I have already had a
go at Tools Options to increase the embedded size but 26 mb is a bit steep to
send. I must have a look at this CDEx that Michael is on about as that sounds
a good bet.
If anyone has any other ideas I will be glad to read them.
Thanks
Charlie

I think we go too far from the beginning question ? How can I compress WAV to
100kb so I can imbed to PP show ?

Charlie, I tried CDex and it worked great. It does not actually convert the
MP3 file to WAV, it puts a header on it that makes it look like a WAV file,
so the size is NOT increased. A wonderful tool! I am still looking for a
way to cut music down one or two minutes worth rather than a whole 3-4 minute
song.

I am using Office 2007 and am very happy with all the new enhancements. You
might want to give it a try. Someone in another post said the file sizes are
smaller when you save in PP 2007.
