Anyone know of a freeware mp3 to midi converter that is easy to use.
This can't really be done, there's a couple of apps that claim it, but at
best they're only monotonic.

It's like reassembling the ingredients from a cake after cooking it, or
rebuilding the sheet music from a record of a symphony.

That's why the midi file is so small, contains only text and is easily
editable.

Impossible.

MP3 is audio.
MIDI is a description of tones: a language that controls digital musical
instruments (some of these instruments can occur within software).

A converter would have to be able to extricate one musical line at a
time from a mixture of independent lines. It's been hard enough for
poeple to do this, requiring musical intelligence and the ability to
follow voice leading and similar musical "hints." Can you follow every
single independent line in a Bach organ fugue?

Just to point out: a real professional composer (human being) could do
a pretty good job at either task...it's their job to be that good.

So, if worse came to worse the OP could always pay somebody to
transcribe the music for him. Though I suspect he is interested more
for entertainment/amusement purposes rather than a burning need.

If you`ve got an mp3 named xxx.mp3, just go and google for xxx.mid..
If the file exists, you`ll get it in mid format. Best I can think of.

Thanks All.
Not being a musician or a computer expert I didn't realise the problems.
Now I do. Anyway thanks.
