MP3 Player -- can i use WMP to transfer MP3s?

WMP detects by MP3 player, but when it copies every song comes up with
an error.

Does WMP convert everything to WMA format before transferring? If so,
I suspect this might be the problem. Is there any way to use it to
transfer MP3s?

If you mean rip CDs and encode them as MP3s, then yes, for $10 for a licensed
codec..
Better yet, use CDex for free. http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

Does CDex make better rips than wmp w/ the codec?
Or is just better because it's free?

Just curious...
I've been ripping mp3s at 192 w/ the Intervideo plug-in, and while I'm
generally happy with the sound quality, I'd be willing to give up the
convenience of "one-stop ripping" for better sound.

I don't need to rip anything, since I've already got the MP3s. I just
need to use WMP to transfer existing MP3s to an MP3 player, but it
doesn't seem to be working. The documentation makes it sounds like it
converts anything to try to transfer into WMA format.

Audio quality depends on the codec used, and the quality setting (which
determines how much processor usage is involved). I recommend CDex because it's
EASY! I pop in a disc, it fetches the track names, and I click one button, and
that's it. It even ejects it when it's finished.

One thing I don't like about WMP is that you can't change the naming scheme.
CDex gives you complete control over that aspect of the process. If you really
want the best quality, you should research the forums at
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/ 128Kbps AAC files are supposed to sound as good
as 192Kbps MP3s. I'd encode everything to AAC, but my player doesn't support
it. :-(
