Hi I have been having trouble with my computer. Lately I cannot download an
mp3 file from a website as mp3. My computer says it is an mp2 (though the
source file is mp3). I am finding this quite frustrationg. It has been
happening for about a week now. I am running XP home SP2, my laptop (XP Pro,
SP2) works just fine. It will download it as Mp3, but the same file on my
desktop wants to download it as Mp2. To see an example of a file I have been
trying to download, go to http://www.calvarychapeltwickenham.com/downloads.htm

Can anyone help me?

THANKS!

Hi Matt,

Works fine here.

Backup the keys and then in the right-pane, set the data for "Extension" to "mp3" in both these keys

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mp3

Start - Run regedit.exe
Open to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Mime\Database\Content Type\audio/x-mp3
and highlight. Check Extension in the right pane, if it is not .mp3
double click Extension and enter that (don't forget the lead period)
