If songs have already been ripped at 192 bit rate can they be converted
to 68? Its for my daughters mp3 player, she already ripped them at 192
but can't get very many songs on there.

128 bit rate is as low as I go for .MP3 files. If your daughter's
player can also play .WMA files (some do), Microsoft says those can be
made smaller and still sound okay. Not my cup of tea, though.

Well, I'll let my daughter decide so if someone could tell me how I'll
do it lol. I would just re-rip the cd's but some of them she borrowed
and it would be alot easier than trying to round them all up again. and
maybe she could compromise and go with 128. I'm sure there is freeware
out there to help me and thanks for your replies.

CDex...Convert>Re-encode compressed audio file(s). Be sure that you
have it make a new file, don't just re-encode the original.

Thanks that did what I needed. although I had to download wmaudsdk.dll
and install it, and it caused a few errors but I got her songs
converted. Some of her songs were wma and it doesn't convert those,
of course that's not what its designed to do.

Surely 'borrowed' cd's is as bad as 'warez' programs, yet it seems to be On
Topic now.

You are a hypocrite dadioH

first of all dadioH is not the hypocrite. My (mbmack's) daughter is the
one who borrowed her friends cd's and her friend borrowed some of hers.
If im not mistaken a hypocrite is a person who professes beliefs and
opinions that he or she does not hold in order to conceal his or her
real feelings or motives. My daughter borrowing a cd doesn't come close
to that definition. Why do people in this group always want to start
something?

Hardly. I don't know for sure about where dadiOH lives, or you for that
matter, but in a lot of countries it is perfectly legal and acceptable
to make copies for personal use, for family and even for close friends.
