Mozilla & lost hyperlinks in Outlook Express 6.0

I recently road-tested Firefox 1.0 (on my Win XP Pro) for a few days before
uninstalling it because I preferred IE 6. Now, my hundreds of webpage
shortcut icons are dead. Clicking on them brings the message, "This file does
not have a program associated with it for performing thIs action. Create an
association in the Folder Options control panel." [What and where is the
Folder Options control panel?]

More worryingly, the hyperlinks in my e.mails are also dead. Dragging any
link onto my desktop and clicking the new icon produces the same message as
above.

Any advice will be appreciated. Many Thanks.

Try reinstalling Firefox but choose to make Internet Explore the default
browser. Your icons should then work OK. Now uninstall Firefox.

Type this command from Start, Run dialog:

Regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll

Then, open Internet Options, Programs tab. Click "Reset Web Settings"

If that does not help, apply the URL association fix from:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_url_shortcut_fix.zip

NOTE: If you've installed SP1 or above, use the "Set Program Access and Defaults" feature to set IE as the default browser.
