Mozilla = Firefox + Thunderbird ( + minor apps ? )

I am quite confused in Mozilla related
applications, like Mozilla itself,
Firefox , Thunderbird, KMeleon...

Can anybody explain relation between them...
Is Mozilla collection of them, or sth different ?

They are all built around the same layout engine (Gecko), and the Mozilla,
Firefox & Thunderbird are all built using XPCOM components and XUL (XML)
layout definitions, everything glued together with JavaScript.

Mozilla's browser shares a lot with Firefox, but not everything and the
same is true for Mozilla's MailNews vs. Thunderbird.

Generally Mozilla has the same functionallity of
FireFox and Thunderbird combined. It also offers
a built-in html editor, and an irc client.

Which to use ? I use mozilla since it combines the
best browser (also in FF) and a very good mail client.
If the html editing or chat are a problem then you would
probably want to use FF/TB. (btw: if you need a good
standalone html editor similar to that in mozilla then
there is nvu.)

As to KM.. that is a totally different application also
based on the same rendering engine, but quite seperate
from the Mozilla.Org options..

Hope this helps.

I thought sth like that. Thanks.

....

I thought the things are similar as you explained to me.

I have NVU already fresh installed. :)AFAIK KMeleon is Gecko based browser behaving like IE AFAP.

Thanks for an answer..

K-Meleon is only a browser. It's slimmer and, it seems, faster than
Firefox, and especially well suited for older, less resourceful computers.
Scoring 6 ducks at Nonags.

Switching to K-Meleon, I succeded in prolonging the life of my ancient
laptop.

I've got a very foxy system at the moment. First, Firefox as it is the best browser (and
extensions seem to be much better co-ordinated to stop conflicts). I don't know what extensions
are like for K-Meleon, but I sure use a lot of them on Firefox.

For email I'm using Foxmail as it has a few more options than Mozilla/Thunderbird. You can have
more than 1 smtp address to send from, and you also have the choice of leaving some emails on
the server & just downloading the ones you want at the time (if on dial-up, it means that you
can retrieve that email you've been waiting on while leaving Uncle Bob's holiday pictures until
later).

There's an add-on called Foxtools which adds some other functions such as random signatures &
changing the browser launched whan a link is clicked.

I used Foxmail a while back, seemed to be abit cranky, and the user
interface needed work. I will look again.. (so wonderful to be able to
explore freeware like this eh ??)

As to multiple smtp servers, I think Moz/TB can support that alrhough
they caution about it. I have not personally used it.

Take care,
KHaled.

K-meleon doesn't have that many. You are supposed to be good enough to
make your own with scripts. very powerful in the right hands.

According to the K-Meleon roadmap and the wiki, around this time
(September, 2004), K-Meleon should have its 0.9.5 release already !

But when I went to K-Meleon's Sourceforge site, all I could get was
the 0.8.2 release.

Can anyone enlighten me on the up-coming K-Meleon 0.9, 0.9.5, and 1.0
release, if they can come true or not ?

Thanks !!

I'm not an insider, but as far as I can understand in the K-Meleon fora, a
new version is far away.

There is, however, a brand new unofficial version called K-M 0.8.2+. The
release, nicknamed "Wechselbalg", is a K-Meleon 0.8.2 based on the Mozilla
test release 1.8a2.
I haven't tried it myself yet, but the reactions in the Forum has so far
been only positive. Seems to be a great improvement.

That sounds interesting, do you happen to have an URL for that ?
