Mozilla Extensions Problem

BOOGIEMAN

I have two partitions with same OS installed (winXP) on my PC.
On my primary, working partition I have problem with mozilla firefox 0.93
I can't get any new extension (from: http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/)
When I click on install nothing happens.
On my test partition, everything is working fine ... I don't have a clue
what's the problem ... help !

Do you have "Allow web sites to install software" checked in
Tools>Options>Advanced?

:))) no ! I can't believe it was only that, I thought it was a bigger
problem because I overwrited old version of firefox with new ones.
I started cleaning registry ... etc and I intended to reinstall
whole windows today, LOL ... THANK YOU !!!

What I usually do is instead of just clicking on the install link, I actually right-click & save
the file (link target) to another folder. All I then need to do is just use the File dropdown
menu in Firefox to open each one. That way I've always got a copy of that installation file in
case I ever need to reinstall it.

It did come in handy for me yesterday - there was an extension where the developer's site has
been closed due to excessive traffic. Fortunately I still had a copy of the installation file
on my hard drive.

How do you do that, I downloaded *.xpi file and now what ?

At the top left corner of FireFox you have the "File" menu. Click on that & the 3rd option down
is "Open File". Select that, then locate the directory you downloaded the .xpi files to. When
you've got them listed, just highlight the file you want, & either double-left-click or select
open to install it. You will then be given the installation dialogue & you're there.

....or simply drag the .xpi file into your Firefox window :)

OK, thanks. Just to say that even I did this offline I had to check
"Allow web sites to install software" in Tools>Options>Advanced
It doesn't work if that option is unchecked
