Moving XP Pro to my laptop from my desktop

I originally installed XP Pro (Full Version) in my desktop and left Windows 2000 in my laptop. Now that I know I like XP, I would like to install it in my laptop (which is my main machine) and put Win 2000 in my desktop. How do i do this

I tried by just installing XP fresh into my lapttop from the CD, but when I try to register it it says that it already has been installed on another machine or something like that. Is there a procedure I need to do on my desktop to uninstall it?

Yes you can but i would suggest you call microsoft and
they will tell you whats the best way or you can wait for
someone else that knows for sure

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable to a
new computer), simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently
on, and install it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days
since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely
be able to activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been
less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
