Hi:

I have a WD 200 Gig (8K cash) drive that seems to be going bad. I did
update the drive Bios using the WD update patch. It is was having
problems being indentfied. I finally got the system to find the drive
but it will not boot. I put the Windown System XP Pro CD in and the
system did a boot up on the CD then went to the drive and finished
booting. The system now looks normal except that I can not boot off
the system hard disk. This happened a month or so ago, but it
starting working again after I check some connections.

I now suppect that the Hard drive is/was going bad at least in the
boot section. I have room to install another drive. So I was
thinking of transfering the contects of this drive to another new
drive.

Problem: How do I copy the OS so it will be bootable to another Hard
drive? There must be a site somewhere, could someone direct me there.
I built the system and have worked with computers for years, but XP
Pro is new to me.

Thanks

Gary

Did you try booting the recovery console from the CD and then using the
'fixmbr' and 'fixboot' commands? (Start, help, recovery console
commands)?

Some drive manufacturers provide an appropriate utility together with
the new (retail) drive. Otherwise you need something like GHOST.
