Let's say you have all the updates/hotfixes on a CD and
install them on a computer. Is there a way to view the
installation history via Windows Catalog update site? OR
using the regular Windows Update?

yeah, on the update page, left column > other options >
View Installion History.

Negative

That works only if you've downloaded the files to your
computer that your checking the history on. If you
transferred them via CD or whatever, you won't see any
history.

You are quite right. The Installation History does not record from any
other than manual download/install from the update site or automatic update.
I tried the CD route before --- burned from the update catalogue and
extraction from Internet Temporary Files --- with negative results. The
list of installed updates, however, is in the registry:

Start > Run > type in regedit >OK
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Updates Expand all DataAccess
Windows Media Player
Windows XP
List is not exhaustive, leaving them to IE's [Help] > About IE:
SP1
822925
330994
828750 (Installed just this morning)
