Moving Vista

Three years ago I purchased a high powered laptop which came with Microsoft
Media Edition Pre-installed. When Vista became avaialable, I upgraded to
VISTA Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

The laptop gave acceptable performance and I was satisfied.

I recently built a high powered desktop machine and installed XP Professional.

I would like to go back to Media Edition on the Laptop and move Vista
Ultimate to the Desktop. XP Media Edition is on a DVD and XP professional is
also a purchased copy.

Here is my question:
What do I need to do to accomplish this?

I activated and registered Vista Ultimate. Do I need to unactivate and/or
unregister it? Do I need to do anything to re-activate or reregister XP
Professional? Can I do these over the internet or will a long phone call to
Microsoft be required?

Thanks in advance.

Restore the laptop back to the factory setup with XP Media edition. If you
use the manufacturer's factory restore procedure there should be no need for
activation. If you install XP from a CD and use the key from the bottom of
the laptop you will have to phone for activation. It's usually not a long
phone call. It usually takes around five minutes. I've called for activation
many tomes with the longest call being less than ten minutes.

On the desktop run the Vista Ultimate upgrade. You may or may not have to
phone for activation but the odds are pretty good that you will have to
phone.
