Moving user accounts to W2K from NT Need advice badly

Rich Tibbets

I posted this question before and received no response. I hope to get
some advice on how to proceed, sorry for the long post.

I have 5 NT Domains that I am moving into a single W2K Active
Directory Domain. The Migration also includes Exchange 5.5 Servers
and E2K servers in the same Org. The E2K Servers are sitting in the
W2K domain with the goal to migrate all the users and public folders
to the new E2K Box and then removing the 5.5 box's all together.

After the W2K domain was setup the Exchange migration process started
first. The ADC was run and disabled user accounts were created in the
W2K domain. Since I still have 5.5 Exchange Boxes in use I can't
switch to Native mode, which means I can't use the ADMTv2 to migrate
the users to the new domain.

While I can survive with out the Sid History of the User accounts I
can't lose the access to the Exchange mailboxes. I read the papers on
the problems activating the Disabled accounts.

My Questions are:

1. If I use the Disabled accounts with the intention of removing all
the 5.5 box's will I have any trouble.
2. With the Requirements of migrating the 5.5 user accounts to E2K
what is the best approach to do this and tie them to a new W2K user
account
Again I'm stuck with what I have an need to find a way to make this
work…Any Help / recommendations would be appreciated

[Christoffer Andersson] You can trun to native mode even with Exchange 5.5,
what Windows2000 Native mode means is just the follow, No more or existing
NT4.0 BDCs if you have NT4.0 BDCs you can't go for native mode or planning
install any NT4.0 BDCs else native mode is straight forward.

While I can survive with out the Sid History of the User accounts I

[Christoffer Andersson] You can migrate users anyway even if the
destionation domain not running in native mode, but if you want to take use
of the feature SidHistory the destionation domain have to be in native mode.
SidHistory allows migrated users keep the SID from the old domain they are
migrated from, by this users are availbel to access recourses in both the
old domain and the new during the migration period and until you have demote
the old domain and finish the project.

This question below may are in intresst for the exchange group as well. I
can't see any troubel to migrate over existing users to AD and by the way
from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2000
