Moving .pst to laptop

Hello,
Is it true .pst files cannot be moved across a wireless wan/lan? My other
file transfers work great, at least I
can not get the .pst to work. I get an error message "Cannot copy outlook,
the
specified network name is no longer available"
So, the only way I have found to transfer the .pst without using the export
method to back up my desktop OL 2003 .pst to my laptop OL 2003 is
to burn a cd. I tried the suggestion from slipstick.com of "When you are
working over a WAN or LAN, it is better to use the offline folder files
(.ost files) " But I apparently am not using an Exchange Server with .ost
Files.
MS says "Other Behaviors of .pst Files over WAN/LAN Links
a.. All operations take longer.
b.. Write operations can take approximately four times longer than read
operations.
c.. Outlook has slower performance than the Exchange Client."

Even if the transfer rate slows down, it would be better than burning disks?

Thanks for your input,

Copy the file when Outlook is closed. An export of your pst-file is not a
backup. Also having Outlook connect to a pst-file on a networkshare is not
recommended and supported by Microsoft.

That's a network issue and has no bearing on what file you're transferring.
That's Windows telling you that it can't find the share.

Maybe. It works for me, but I don't care if I lose mail. (I haven't so
far, though.) Just be aware that you can't open the same PST in more than
one instance of Outlook.

I am using Map the drive but pointing it to\\192.168.0.1\D$ which is my
desktop (a Starband satellite thing) I can transfer ANY other files but the
outlook.pst will start to transfer and stops mid point and gives me the
above^ error.

Yes, I am aware of this.

I guess I should have ended my comments with a question mark? Is my only
option to transfer files to the laptop is by burning a CD?
I would like not to corrupt the files by going over the wireless connection,
but it sure would be nice to be able too.

Thanks in advance,

I don't see any particular reason why, on a properly working wireless LAN,
that PSTs shouldn't transfer properly.
