Moving Outlook to a new laptop

I have purchased a new computer to replace one that is growing unreliable but
still runs.

Outlook 2007 on both, XP on old machine, Vista on new.

I have a yahoo small business account for mail and use it as a POP server
for the outlook client. Outlook is configured to leave messages on the server

I have copied the .pst file from the old machine to the new machine default
location. Outlook opens fine and all mail and folders appear to be present,
but...

Outlook then, upon send and receive, begins to download all of the messages
stored on the server, all of which have already been down loaded. How can I
convince Outlook that all of these messages have already been downloaded?
(the old machine works fine)

Well the first advice would have been to read ALL the posts that are posted
to ALL the Outlook groups on a more-than-once a day basis on how to migrate
your Outlook data properly.
The way you did it is NOT the way to do it properly.

Not a good idea, as Gordon says. You can damage the mail profile and it's
very likely the Outlook Address Book service in your mail profile won't work
so you won't be able to see your Contacts when you click To.

You can't if they're in the Inbox on the server. Outlook on the new PC has
no idea that the messages were downloaded on the old PC. As far as it's
concerned, they're all new.

There are a couple of ways to handle this: One is to log into the mailbox
via a web browser and move those messages to a folder other than Inbox.
They'll still be available via web, but Outlok won't see them because
they're not in the Inbox. Another way (that used to work in Outlook 2003
and earlier, but that I haven't tested on OL 2007) is to add a second PST to
your mail profile, set its Inbox as the download destination of the account,
allow Outlook to re-download all those messages, then set the download
location back to the original PST, finally deleting the added PST and its
duplicate messages. Outlook should then be in sync with the server.
