Moving OutLook Data Files

I am trying to help a friend whose OutLook 2003 sp3 is on his 'C:'
drive and it is almost full (about 1 Gb remaining).
His data files occupy 10 Gb including his personal folders and several
archives.
He has a lot of room on other drives.

Are there any instructions, tips and traps to be aware of when moving
his data files from his 'C:' to 'D:' drives?

Thank you in advance.

Not particularly - with Outlook closed, just move them. When Outlook is
re-opened, it will complain that it can't find the data file(s). Just
navigate to where you put them...

Do all of the files end in '.pst' or are there others as well?
I thought I remembered seeing something about an actual setting that
could be modified as to the location.
Maybe I am thinking of another version?

Not entirely true. While it's true for the delivery location PST, the
autoarchive settings within Outlook will need to be updated to reflect the
new PST locations as well or Outlook will simply recreate new archive PSTs
in the old locations the next time autoarchive runs.

In fact, PSS has always been very clear on this fact. Simply moving the PST
file while Outlook closed, then forcing a reconnect to the new location on
relaunch is not supported. Many people still do it and get away with it, but
there are other settings that will be disrupted by this method.

The only supported method to move a PST file is and always has been to make
a copy in a new location, open the copy in Outlook, set the copy as the new
default, restart Outlook, then close the first location's file.

Brian,

I saw a post of yours on another Outlook thread but can't find it again so
I'll ask my questions here. I've got the link to the article on where
Outlook stores its files but in the post you mentioned that some stuff is
stored in the Registry. With the exception of the application record itself,
what other Outlook data is stored there? This is background on understanding
how to backup and recover Outlook if I need to.

Thanks

Tom

I can't think of anything specific in the registry that would be necessary
to reinstall in the event you had to reinstall Outlook. In my opinion, it
would be better to allow the registry data to be rewritten from scratch.

I want to move Outlook 2007 data files from my desktop to my new laptop. I
read the Help instructions for moving data files, but am still confused about
the process. Here's what I have done so far: searched for .pst files>copied
the files to a flash drive. The files included what appears to be duplicates
and backup practice files.
So, what do I do next? I setup Outlook on the laptop. Currently it has the
Personal Folder files. How do I copy the old data files to the laptop? Do the
user names in the path have to match? Once this is all done, will email still
arrive in Outlook on my desktop and my laptop? Will this move files, journal,
contacts from the desktop OL to the laptop OL? Thank you for your help.
