Moving Outlook '03 from XP to Win 7.

John S. Sapyta.

Hey guys,

I have question or two about Outlook '03.

I just got a Windows 7 machine I'm debating installing '03 on it, thinking
it might not work. What do you guys think? Also I considering installing
Windows mail that can be downloaded for win 7, but I'm curious if anyone has
tried importing .pst's into Windows Mail. I just want to stay away from the
small .pst sizes that Outlook has its just a pain.

Outlook 2003 should be just fine on Win7. Live mail works well too - if it
meets your needs, use it.

However, Outlook 2003 supports Unicode pst format which defaults to 20 GB
(and can be as large a 1 TB) - so if you are using an older pst format, make
a new pst. See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ansi-to-unicode.asp

If you are going for Outlook 2003, make sure you apply Service Pack 3 and
additional updates before trying to configure Outlook.
If you are going for Windows Live Mail, make sure you convert your pst-files
first by importing them into Outlook Express since WLM cannot directly
import pst-files but it can directly import the mail storage folder of
Outlook Express.

Some other things to consider regarding Outlook and upgrading to Windows 7
are listed here;

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Windows Live Mail will not import messages from Outlook, neither will
Outlook export to WLM.

I don't understand that comment. The new Unicode pst file format that
Outlook 2003 and 2007 use can be anything up to TWENTY GIGABYTES in size. Is
that small enough for you?
