How do I change the default location of the "My Documents"
folder so that any program that accesses it will go to the
new location. I have moved the folder already and told a
few programs where it is but I want to do it globally
since there are a few programs and situations that still
refer to the now empty "My Documents" folder in the old
location.

If you right click your my documents folder, and then click on properties. You can change the default location of the My Documents folder. When you change it, if there is content within the folder, it will ask if you would like to move it to the new location. I hope this helps

Try using Tweak UI to relocate any special folder. Here's what its Help tip
says:

---quote--
The "Special Folders" section lets you view and edit the locations of the
various Windows special folders. Select the folder from the "Folder" section
and change it by clicking the "Change Location" button.
This is a per-user setting. You will need to log off and back on for the
changes to take effect.
---end quote---

If you don't have Tweak UI installed, you can download it from this link:

Tweak UI 1.33
