I'm unlikely to ever use windows Movie Maker - is it okay to delete the lot?

You can't - it's part of the operating system.

One way would be to create a nLite XP CD and remove the Movie Maker package
through the nLite options. So the next time you install Windows XP, there
will be no traces of Movie Maker.
