Movie Maker won't save to disk or CD

When I try to save a movie to disk I get a message saying "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, then try again.

If I try to save to CD, I get a message saying "A recordable CD drive was not detected. Would you like to save your movie on your computer hard disk instead?

I have 26Gb of free disk space, I can save other files to the specified folder, and the original source files are available in their original location. Windows Explorer recognises my CD-RW drive and I can successfully write to this drive using both Explorer and Nero

What else can I check to find out what is wrong

If you are using the origional recording system (CD) that
came with XP record the movie to the harddrive first then
copy it to the cdr(w). Unless you have other recording
software (packet writing software - 3rd party) you will
be unable to write the file directly to the cd but have
to have the file on the hard drive complete before
sending to the cd.

hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. That explains why I can't save a movie directly to CD, but doesn't explain why I can't save a movie to my hard drive in the first place.

Problem sorted..

It was caused by an out-of-date QASF.DLL file. Solution was discovered via a thread on the Movie Maker board

Thanks to all concerned, especially www.papajohn.or
