Movie Maker Version 2x

I have a camera that has asf file extension, however, when I export it to
movie maker it plays but when I put it in the time line and try to save it it
won't work because it's saved in WMM file type. Is there any way I can
convert it to mpeg? or am I using the wrong program to try to work on videos?

First you nee to save as a "movie" not the project.

File -> Save Movie File

Secondly, WMovie Maker does not export in MPEG format; only WMV or DV AVI.
Both can be converted to MPEG using a converter or example TMPGenc. Also
note that most DVD authoring programs sch as Nero Vision and Sonic MYDVD can
import DV AVI or WMV directly; they can do the conversion on their own.
However TMPGenc or ProCoder would give you more control over conversion
process.
