Movie Maker Hanging at Capture video from device

i have installed movie maker 3x now, reloaded all my
drivers - the software sees my Sony camera but at the
point where it recognizes it my new system hangs and my
computer freezes up - only hard booting down works....
what can i do? it used to work for me - i am soooo
frustrated
