Move .pst File to New Location

B

Bob_?

If I move the .pst file to a new directory location , how do I get Outlook
to find it? Is there a way to move the .pst without disabling all the
message rules?

The reason I ask is because I like to share .pst files between my laptop and
desktop. The prob is the message rules use fully qualified path and file
locations. My laptop has a business name user and therefore a different file
location. So the two cannot share the message rules. I want to move the .pst
file to something like C:\My Documents\OutlookData..., something thats the
same for both pcs.

Thanks, -Bob

Dear,
(Keeping pst other than your own harddisk - it might slow down the OL)
Ofcourse you can move the pst. Close outlook, copy your pst in to the new
location.(To find out where is your pst, open control panel, mail datafile,
click the personal folder file name, open folder). Again from control panel
mail, view or change email accounts, click on New outlook data file, and
choose the pst which you copied. And in the "Deliver email to the following
location" choose the personal folder which just created. OK.
To remove the previous pst - Go to control panel, mail , datafiles, chose
the file name personal folder, remove.(Remember not the personal folder with
a Mail delivery comment).

Start Outlook - OL prompt to you by saying your Mail delivery location has
changed......Simply press yes or click OK.

With Outlook closed, just move it. When you restart Outlook, it will
complain that it can't find the folders and give you a browse window.
Browse to the PST's new location, select it, and click OK. All your rules
will be intact.

This is more than just moving it to another directory. This is changing
machines, too, and this will disable your rules, since each rule also
contains the name of the machine on which it was defined.
The prob is the message rules use fully qualified
path and file locations. My laptop has a business name user and
therefore a different file location. So the two cannot share the
message rules. I want to move the .pst file to something like C:\My

That still won't work, for the reason I've stated.
