In Outlook 2003 I want to move a sent message to another folder based on the
subject or message content.
I can move a copy of a sent message to other folders based on their content,
but this creates a duplicate message & it marks the sent message as unread in
this new folder.

If I tell Outlook not to save a copy in the Sent Folder, I do not get
duplicates, but I lose any messages that do not have specifically flagged
content & & it still marks the sent message as unread in the new folder.

This must be very simple, but I can't get it to work.

Create the rules you've got and tell Outlook not to save messages as you've
also done.... but create a final catch-all rule (no criteria) that saves the
rest of the sent items to the Sent Items folder

This has an even worse effect as I end up with then following:-
- Filtered Sent Messages are in the required folder & marked as unread
- All sent messages are held in the Sent folder & marked as unread

What I want is as follows:-
- Filtered Sent Messages in the required folder & marked as read
- Unfiltered sent messages held in the Sent folder & marked as read
- No messages appear in multiple folders

Dougie - I agree. Can't believe there is not a better way around this.
Please let me know if you find one. Thanks.

There is no other way.

Do this (found it in another discussion group):

all you need to do is (a) use Tools | Options to turn off Outlook's normal
feature to save all items in Sent Items, (b) make sure all your existing copy
to folder rules also have the "stop processing" action, and (c) add a
catchall rule at the bottom of the rules list to copy all items not handled
by previous rules to the Sent Items folder.
