Copying a Sent Item to another folder and marking it as read

I use Outlook 2003 and have rules set up to move certain Sent items to other
folders. My hang-up is that they always show up as unread. Is there a way
to accomplish this? My rule is set up to move a copy of a message sent to a
certain person to that person's folder. I haven't found an option to also
mark it as read. Any ideas? The closest option I can find is "Do a custom
action" but I have no idea what a custom action is.

That's because Outlook has no built-in way to allow that. You can always run
a rule manually from time to time or right-click the folder and choose Mark
All as Read.
