move footer to be in front of slide image

how can I make a template that allows me to bring in full frame size images
and puts the footer - in this case an auto page number, in front of my images
- by default PP just hides the number behind the image - which isn't very
helpful. I can copy and paste special onto every slide - but do I have to do
that?

Thanks

Think of your Slide Master as the canvas and when you design individual slides
you are layering splotches of paint on the canvas. If you paint over the footer
area, you cover it. In other words, by design the elements on the master are in
the background.

What you can do is insert your images as background objects on the slides and
the footer will then show.
Go to Format > Background > Fill Effects > Picture and point to your picture.
