Move Bootloader from one drive to another

Markus Dreinberg

Hello,

I have the following problem: For some (stupid) reason the bootloader
for my Windows XP is installed on an HDD (C:) which is conntected to
my onboard IDE-controller but Windows XP itself is installed on an HDD
(D:) which is conntected to my RAID-controller.

Now I want to remove C: and boot directly from D:. When I change my
BIOS to boot from D: the System says that there is no OS installed.

So I tried to use FIXMBR and FIXBOOT in order to install a new
bootloader on D: -> no success.

Can someone please tell me what to do?

Thanks
Markus

The boot loader installs to the first active partition.
You will have to keep XP on D:.
You should be able to create an active partition after the XP partition.
Put the boot files there and make sure that boot.ini has the correct
location of XP.
XP will be on partition(1), even though it will show as D:.
The active partition will be C:.
