Move an elbow connector without changing its shape

I am trying to make a flow chart that needs three separate paths coming out
of the same side of a text box. One of the paths can be straight, but the
other two paths need to come out and bend at 90-degrees. The help screens say
that I can move the end of an elbow connector by holding down the Alt key as
I drag.

As soon as I move the end of the connector, it flips from being ONE
90-degree angle to being TWO 90-degree angles (Arrggghhhh!) I can create a
90-degree angle by hooking one end to a text box, and leaving the other end
unconnected, but as soon as I move the unconnected end even close to another
text box, it flips over to two elbows instead of one.

So far, the only way I've been able to make this "work" is with two separate
lines, but then if I need to resize anything, the lines don't hook up any
more.

Isn't there any way for PowerPoint to make an elbow that stays an elbow?

The OrgChart sub-app is ... well... limited. When you have the auto layout
function on, it forces a great many things to be its way. Try turning the
auto-layout function off and see if this allows you to move the connector
the way you want.

There is a way to do what you need. It's kind of awkward, but it works.

Make a small, empty box and hook your connector to it.

Then move it over the text box that needs an extra connection point. You
will need to "order" it so that it is on top (at first).

Then align the empty box with the text box that needs the extra connection
point. For example, if you want an extra connection on the bottom, align the
bottoms of both boxes.

Then move the empty box to the back and group the two boxes. They will now
move as one, and the arrows should stay connected.

Give it a try. It worked for me.

Is the "OrgChart sub-app" the same as making a flow chart using the Auto
Shapes for flowcharts and connectors?

Thanks. That worked.
