Mouse Stutter / Network Failure

Hi,

I have been having a number of computers fail over the last couple of years
all of them experiancing the same symptoms:
- The Mouse stutters - when the mouse is moved, it holds still and moves
and then holds still again, in roughly 3 second intervals. This is a CPU
usage spike that elevates usage to 100% for about a second and then drops to
normal.
- The Network Failure- Accompaning the visual symptom is the failure of the
network to receive or send data (including a failure to obtain an IP address).

Normally I wipe each system, but I now have three that have failed and I
would like a less time intensive solution. I have tried to do virus scans
and ad-program scans, but neither showed any problems.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Admiral Brad

When you say that CPU utilisation goes to 100%, which process is the one
that uses all the CPU? You can get this information from permon.msc or from
Task Manager.

I think this is likely to be a driver issue. Is this happening on PCs with
any hardware in common? Are you using up-to-date drivers?

Also, do the pauses coincide with and hard disk activity?

Regards

Oli
