I use xp professional on an hp celeron machine. All works fine except the
mouse which often does not move after boot up. I have to shut down and
restart a number of time. Device Manager says it is installed and running
properly. Any advice? One person suggested buying a USB mouse but am
looking for a fix before I do that. Thanks

I would try using a different mouse and see if that takes care of it, barrow
one from someone before you buy on just incase it isn't it.

USB would take care of it too.

Thanks

Also try to update the mouse driver and/or uninstall it to use generic XP
driver.
If you are familiar with BIOS setting, go to M/B BIOS setting to see the
settings for mouse - if any.

Sounds like a device and/or driver incompatibility issue

That has happened to me with a Micro optical USB mouse that I was using
with the PS/2 adapter.

EVERY, and I mean EVERY, two and a half years or so, my brother calls me
from Bounemouth describing a fault with his mouse, where the mouse pointer
seems intermittently frozen on screen. After a little fault diagnosis, and
I tell him that his mouse is faulty, he'll argue me up and down, then
eventually buy a new mouse, and he's then amazed that it was indeed a faulty
mouse !!

Two or three bad mice ago, approx.6 years or more ago, I told him he should
buy a PS2 mouse extension lead, because the way he had his mouse cord routed
through to where he uses it, it was suffering a LOT of flexing on approx. 4
or 5 inches of its' cord, near the mouse itself. I emphasized that the
cords' "life" would be substantially reduced while this problem was present
(too tight a loop - if you see what I mean). Obviously he thought I was
fussing about nothing. I don't think he ever did buy a mouse extension
lead. I'm expecting the next "mouse type" 'phone call from him, and the
same type of argument, (all over again), during the next year and a half, or
so !!

regards, Richard
