Mouse pointer moves on it's own

I have a dell inspirion 8000, OS xp pro and my mouse
pointer moves on it's own; sometimes diagonaly from lower
left to right or hides it's self in the upper right or
lower left corners. When in hiding, i can use the touch
pad to bring it back out with it only to return from
where it came in a mil-secound. I try restarting but that
does'nt work unless I leave the system shut down for a
couple days.

Driving me crazy,
