Mouse pointer has the jitters....

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 2500 with 1 gig of PC2700 RAM (Samsung)
and in the past several months I've noted my mouse pointer becoming
erratic and lags behind my input. Never lasts very long, maybe a
couple of seconds and it may not happen for a week or so. I've run a
number of virus checkers and found nothing and to be frank I'm stumped
as to why this happens. Any suggestions appreciated.

Could be hardware related. Next time the problem recreates itself, try a
substitute mouse and see if that is the problem.

It could be lots of things. First to my mind is What kind of mouse do you
use? Is it cordless? If so, has your receiver maybe moved itself out of
range? On my mouse this happens if the receiver is behind the screen or
under the table.What about batteries? Also your mouse could be faulty. Have
you tried another? Or the jittery could be some process taking over the
system for some a short time. Check your Event Viewer for eventual problems.
