Mouse - left button 'select'

I suddenly have a problem 'selecting' a block of text for copy or cut -
normally easy by clicking at the start then dragging & releasing mouse at
end of the block, then right-clicking the selected text with darkened
background.

Now, when I try this the block does not 'select' as I drag the mouse - the
cursor merely moves to the release point. It has become impossible to select
in this manner.

In addition I can no longer drag & drop a file simply by clicking on it and
dragging - often (but not always) it opens as though it had been double
clicked.

Ian,

That sounds as the mechanical problem with the mouse button.

Did you try to use the other mouse?
