Mouse keeps stopping

I have a Logitech Marble Mouse and have been using it no problem for months
and months, then a couple of months ago it suddenly decided to stop working,
ie. cursor just freezes on the screen. This is intermittent and can happen
when I've brought the computer out of standby (mouse won't work at all) or
can suddenly happen when I'm using it. It is attached to a hub that I have
thoroughly checked and other hardware works fine from the hub and from the
port that the mouse is plugged into. My graphics tablet mouse and pen,
behave in the same way.

The only way to get things working again is to literally hold the on/off
button on the computer, ie. power it down without closing any applications.

I mentioned this annoying mouse inactivity to several work colleagues and
they are experiencing the same sort of thing and like me, they thought they
were the only ones. Oh no - there is a growing population of mice suddenly
going on strike.

There is no pattern, some are working from hubs, some from the computer
direct, all different kinds of mice, and some computers with and some without
the Microsfot updates of recent months, some with and some without SP2
installed.

Has anyone found the answer to this problem yet?

I would reinstall the drivers for the mouse: in the Device Manager
remove all, also hidden, instances of the mouse and then restart
Windows.
To restart Windows without using the mouse: press the WIN key or
CTRL-ESC to open the Start Menu, press U, R.

Since it is happening to you and your colleagues with out regard to
mouse types, I would be looking at some other install common to the
affected units. Graphics adapters and drivers perhaps?

i have a marble mouse connected via usb on my work laptop Toshiba TE 2300 and
it works fine. At home on a Toshiba S1 used to work fine but now stops and
freezes after a short time. Re booting will fix it temporarily.I have
contacted Logitec and they have no answers.I am sure the problem started when
I installed SP2 at home (Only have SP1 at work). I have reinstalled the
drivers to no avail and same problems with microsoft generic drivers.i may
install SP@ at work and see what happens.
